In a 44-year-old woman, on the forearm

What to see at dermoscopy:

-whitish structureless areas, showing projections of varying sizes, from thin spikes (comb-like appearence) to broad arboriform ramifications
-linear vessels
Biopsy was indicated.
Histopathological correlation: active lichen planus

Comments: sometimes blue-gray dots (corresponding to dermal melanophages) are also observed.

In a 66-year-old man, on the upper back

What to see at dermoscopy:

-atypical pigment network
-negative pigment network
-multiple colors
-blotch
-erythema
-dotted blood vessels
-scar-like depigmentation (regression areas)
Excision was indicated.
Histopathological correlation:  melanoma in situ

In a 57-year-old woman, on the nail

What to see at dermoscopy:
-brown coloration of the background
-presence of irregular lines (thickness and coloration)
-Hutchinson´s sign
-destruction of nail plate
Biopsy was indicated.
Dermoscopy signs in favor of nail apparatus melanoma

Comments: Fungal infection should also be considered as a cause of melanonychia and must be confirmed histopathologically or mycologically.

-homogeneous grayish lines with gray pigmentation of the background
Dermoscopy signs in favor of  ethnic pigmentation

:

-longitudinal brown lines with irregular thickness and coloration
-micro-hutchinson´s sign.
